ROM, is a non profit organization, committed to promoting innovative art and architecture. ROM hosts exhibitions, lectures, conferences and organizes public art installations and events. Our program is intended to engage emerging issues in contemporary art and architecture and generate a vibrant dialogue between disciplines. ROM has established itself an important role on the Norwegian art and architect scene through engaging and experimental projects.

The gallery is located on the former Nora factories on Maridalsveien 3. Situated close to Oslo's historic river Akerselva and surrounded by a buzzing creative community, the gallery attracts a diverse audience. The main space in the gallery is a 240 sqm exhibition area with 5 m ceiling height. The courtyard behind the gallery is frequently used for larger installations.

The gallery moved to it’s current location in September 2005 following a merger between two precursor institutions: Gallery ROM (ROM gallery for arkitektur), founded in 1987 and Institutt for Romkunst , founded in 1988.

Overview:

ROM is supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture (KD) as well as private donations and commercial sponsors. ROM is founded by NAL (National Association of Norwegian Architects), NLA (Norwegian Association of Landscape Architects), NIL (the Norwegian Organization of Interior Architects and Furniture Designers), NBK (The National Organization for Visual Artists in Norway) and NK (The Norwegian Association of Arts and Crafts)
